In Europe and – to a lesser degree – in the Arab world, the debate about political Islam tends to be polarized, inspite of the diversity of its manifestations, and tends to focus mostly on jihadis m. Looking back at his forty years of research on the societies of the region, François Burgat calls for a decontruction of oversimplying approaches.
